Week 4. Timeline for p.150~200

The father and his son are still staying in a hatch they found, in which lots of canned food and a bathroom were. They bathe there, which makes them look really nice with the haircut done by the man. And at this time, they talk about the man's expectation and prediction toward the bad guys. "If you're on the lookout all the time does that mean that you're scared all the time?" (151) Then his father says, "Well. I suppose you have to be scared enough to be on the lookout in the first place. To be cautious. Watchful." (151) This shows well that the man is always ready to coming danger. He tries his best to predict what is coming in order to protect the little boy, as well as himself. This would be something really natural for those living in an apocalyptic world. Unless they prepare for the future danger, they would end up as food of other people.
After this, the man dreams about an alien creeping around him, which helps him realize he himself is an alien to the boy. However, I wonder why the man should feel like this. According the book, this little boy his calling the man "father," and I don't think their relationship of father and son is disturbing or awkward. I mean, I translated being like an alien as being somewhat awkward or, kind of, parting from each other. Does this mean the man is not a real dad of the boy? Or is this a sort of foreshadowing that the man will go away and die? If any of you know the most natural translation of this, please let me know.
Rain starts, and the man dismantles burner from stove. They put a lot of things on the cart. Preperation for setting out. It is hard to push the cart on the wet ground, and even worse, it is really heavy. The boy askes his father where they are, and the man estimates that they are about two hundred miles from the coast as crow flies. (He insists that the crow flies directly, but I can't believe it.) This very moment, they see a very old short person shuffling. The father thinks he is a mere decoy, but actually he iss not. He was a real man having nothing to eat. His eyesights poor. The boy, again, feels pity and gives something to eat. What a good person this boy is. I would not be able to give up my food just to help other people in that doomed world, and probably, the auther contrasts that pure little boy to the gloomy and dead world fill with cannibals.
They keep going even though the man coughs hard. They get to the discarded train, enjoy it and keep going. Boy dreams and in it, the man doesn't get up despite the son cried out loud. Maybe dead. The next day they see some people traveling with pregnant woman, and later, they see some people cooking an infant. The boy feels nothing.

  1. Jack, nice summary:)
I think overall you mentioned all the important happenings from the chapters we were assigned to. I liked your style of writing becasue you quoted some phrases that you thought were useful in understanding the whole thing. Didn't you think that as time passes by, there are more unbearable scenes coming up? Eating babies and cannibalism. Just not acceptable for me... You did a great job★

  2. Again, Jack, I feel like you did a very good, detailed job with the first half of the section, and then rushed through the end. Since you are under the required 500 words, next time, I'd like you to fully develop your ideas, please.

    Thank you!
